Official Statement
HISTORIC MILESTONE: GHANA CABINET APPROVES BIRTHRIGHT CERTIFICATE BILL FOR PARLIAMENTARY REVIEW
ACCRA, GHANA – ANOPWAN is proud to announce a monumental step forward in the quest for restorative justice and the reunification of the African family. Following our sustained advocacy and the submission of the Unified Petition, the Honourable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior. has formally accepted the proposal for the Birthright Certificate.
In a decisive move for Pan-Africanism, the proposal received Cabinet approvalin late 2025. The government has now authorized the drafting of the official Bill, which is being prepared for presentation to the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
The Birthright Certificate will serve as a sacred bridge for direct descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, offering a formal recognition of their ancestral ties to Ghana. This initiative aligns with the "Beyond the Return" agenda, ensuring that the call to "come home" is backed by tangible legal frameworks and a dignified pathway to belonging.
ANOPWAN extends its profound gratitude to His Excellency the President and the Cabinet for their visionary leadership. We remain committed to working closely with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the legislative process reflects the hopes and needs of the descendant community.
The journey continues. From Petition to Policy. From Vision to Law.
